home for the weekend

I was able to sneak away this past weekend to the DC area where I grew up. Somehow in the short weekend I was able to fit in time with family & friends, run boring errands, and even a shopping trip (i know....so much for sticking to my list).

I will admit I wasn't very good about taking pictures this weekend. But I did get some good ones of Jaks (my brother's girlfriend's puppy). I love this little guy.

I got to spend time with some of my closest friends, which unfortunately now a days isn't as often as I would like. I stayed both nights with Huey, who has an amazing studio apartment in DC. Long over due chats, bar hopping, great snacks, and good wine made for a great weekend away.

What an adorable bottle of wine...

Suzanne and I...

Jill, Huey and I ate great sushi in the Dupont Circle area

and as I was struggling to wake up early this morning to head back to the beach, I walked out to Huey's backyard.... (I am still working on my photography skills, but that's the White House and the Washington monument hidden behind the trees....this is pretty good considering the amount of sleep I didn't get)

some of my shopping trip finds soon to come...

Spring wardrobe

I have been trying to be good about saving money, but like most, can't resist shopping. In order to save money, I am putting together a list of my spring "must-haves" and only allowing myself to make these purchases (all are attainable items...need to be realistic here).

a pleated maxi...i want to find one in a fun color, like olive or red

a new swimsuit (on second thought this is a summer must-have but need to make sure I am prepared!)

crochet shorts (I am a sucker for a cute pair of shorts and anything 70's inspired...so these are perfect)

I would love these to wear over a bathing suit in the summer

a denim shirt...
which I am still on the hunt for the perfect true denim button up. But this chambray one could be a good substitute for the time being

spring dresses (this one I can't pin down to specifics)

i am loving the color orange this spring

back a little bit heavier

Back from NY, and back a little bit heavier. While I was there for work, I couldn't help but enjoy some good food while I was at it....

We did a group dinner at a place called The Coffe Shop.
I love the atmosphere of this place- feels like a typical New York city diner when you first walk in, but as you are taken to another section of the restaurant, it becomes a "trendier" but still casual place to eat.

Another reason why I love this place....in 2008 my college friends and I took a trip up to NYC for a birthday celebration and had stumbled upon it in search of a place to eat. Being there reminded me of the great time I had with these girls that weekend.

Another night in the city I got to meet Eileen, a very close family friend, for dinner. On recommendation we went to the tinniest Italian restaurant in Soho called Il Corallo Trattorria - it did not disappoint. I wish I had my camera with me to show the delicious pasta and tiramisu we ate...oh and not to mention the red wine we enjoyed as well.

it was all so worth it

sunset

the past few days we have had some amazing weather....all fingers crossed it doesn't go back to the bitter cold (I know that's a long shot). The other day I decided I needed to go test out my new camera (a b-day present last summer) and went to the inlet to catch this beautiful sunset. Something about a sunset always stops me in my tracks. When I see things like this, I am reminded why I love living by the water. These are the things I need to teach myself to take in more often and be in/enjoy the moment without any other thoughts.
Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine.

a few of my least favorite things

I am getting ready to head off to NYC for work and I very much so dislike packing. I am fully capable of putting together my day to day outfits having my whole closet in front of me (and usually being fairly content), but when it comes to packing- that's where my skills are are not so up to par.

the only thing I am confident about at this point is my new necklace I am wanting to wear with everything

And of course when it comes that time before a trip,  it always seems you have loads of laundry to do as well.
...I guess now that it's finally washed maybe I'll bring this tee too

wish me luck in pulling it together
